Many have said that the only colours they can get from natural dyeing are beige and brown. (I include my own comments from the early days in the field in this).
To dispel this I present the following. The colours are even more amazing in real life.
Hi Lesley. Most of the leaves are local to here, but unlike India I have not managed to identify them yet. Some are collected from a recent trip to Victoria "Cordata" is the red and "Rest stop trees" the orange. The dye pots were the leftovers from the moth dye bath which went quite green after sitting for a while in the copper, onion skins, with iron and without both in a copper pot. The yellow is where I've wrapped around a copper pipe that has some solder and always gives this gorgeous yellow spot this was also in the copper pot with no iron so the onion skins give the whole thing a beautiful golden glow..
Gorgeous! I can not wait for trees to get going around here so I can try this too. I've got pretty interesting colors from dyeing with plants, purples and reds too. Lovely work as always Pam!
the colours are amazing Pam. got a question for you though, I sometimes feel (or fear) the colours fade, when you use the fabric. some stains do stay but some colours do dissapear fast, how do you handle that or do you just re-dye as India writes about?
Now you have to tell us how you achieved them, pretty please. What did you use, especially for that bright yellow one, second from the end.
