These are some prefelts and silk dyed and ready to be made into a gown. I've never tried any thing like this before. I have no pattern and no idea really I'm just winging it and hoping for the best!! I'm on a dead line as usual and spent an all nighter getting all the bits together.
This is the size of the gown in the underlayer of prefelt next to my 13yr old.
This is the gown before felting. I hope I haven't made it too big!!. It always astounds me the size of things before they are fully felted.

this is amazing!!!!!! yeah, making clothes with felt has that scary touch... everything is gigantic before felting.
Can not wait to see the finished gown.
Good luck Pam!
Wow - that is going to be AWESOME! Can't wait to see the finished piece.....
I'm sure it will be a success! And I also know the feeling it is gigantic and that it can't be right size, but in the end... I must admit I don't have the courage to tack such a project :-(
WOW!....:)
Katie misses you, she has been doing some knitting....:)
This looks so fabulous, can't wait to see the finished article. How do you learn how to do something like this, or do you really make it up as you go along? Any chance you could describe the process in more detail. Is it mainly nuno felt or will it be quite a firm fabric, I am trying to visualise how the dress will feel to wear, will it flow or have quite a rigid shape to it? Is the gown for a special occasion?
thanks for sharing, inspiring as always
much love Martine
what an event this is :) so sensual and inviting, and i can't wait to see how your gown turns out... isn't there just something amazing about the idea of fibres wanting to mold and shape themselves so tightly to create something, ending up the opposite of how they originally started on the sheep?
that is a real challenge - you have made us all curious how you are going to finish this. Good luck! xDorie
have you ever seen the size of boots before felting...your gown will be right size!
Amazing, Pam.
I cant wait to see the finished gown.
I love watching your leaps into the unknown and await seeing this incredible gown once it's felted!
Well the gown was a bit big. Too long mainly. I will have to find a tall model with platforms. Martine the gown was made from the prefelt lining and the other pieces of prefelt on top to make two layers. Silk was added here and the for textural difference. I lost a lot of the beautiful detail of the prefelts as I had to felt it down so much and it has also become more stiff than I wanted. Some pattern making skills may have helped in the designing as even though I've put a lace up back in I don't know that I can have it as shaped as I want and still get it on and off. A dressmakers dummy isn't as flexible as a person so I may get away with it. I have little time to fix all of this as I have to post it off tomorrow morning.
